In their words
What Churnkey is
Churnkey is retention infrastructure for subscription businesses. It intercepts cancellations with dynamic flows that offer discounts, pauses or plan switches based on who is leaving and why, runs precision dunning across email, SMS and in-app channels, and uses AI to generate flow copy and offers, translate them automatically and mine cancellation feedback for patterns. It publishes strong headline results for churn reduction and payment recovery on its own site.
Honest fit
Which one you should actually pick
Most comparison pages are written so that one answer is always right. These two columns get the same room, the same styling and the same amount of thought.
Choose Churnkey if
- Retention is your bottleneck, not measurement. Churnkey's cancel flows are the deepest in the market — dynamic offers, pauses, plan switches, branching by segment — and Bastle's are simpler.
- You want AI applied to retention specifically: generated flow copy and offers, automatic translation of the flow, and feedback mining across cancellations. Churnkey ships all of that.
- You need multi-channel dunning with heavy per-segment tuning. Churnkey's precision dunning is more configurable than Bastle's campaign sequences.
- You already have analytics you trust and are not looking to replace it. Churnkey slots alongside an existing stack rather than competing with it.
- You want a vendor whose entire product surface is retention. Focus is a real advantage and Bastle is not focused on this.
Choose Bastle if
- Measurement is your bottleneck. Bastle is a full subscription analytics product — 28 metrics, cohorts, segmentation, MRR movement decomposition — and Churnkey is not.
- You want to know which churn reason is costing the most MRR, not just which is mentioned most often, and to trace it into cohorts and segments.
- You want retention and analytics in one product rather than two vendors and two bills, and Bastle includes both while in beta.
- You want plain-English questions answered over your revenue data with the underlying records cited.
- You need investor-facing live metric rooms, forecasting or a full metrics API — none of which is what Churnkey is for.

A tick means the capability ships today. A dash means it exists in a narrower or different form. A cross means it is not available. Nothing is marked absent merely because it works differently.

These are not the same product
Churnkey is retention infrastructure. Bastle is subscription analytics that includes retention tooling. They overlap in the middle — both intercept cancellations, both chase failed payments — and diverge sharply at the edges, so the comparison is really a question about which problem you are solving.
Where Churnkey is better, plainly
Cancel flows. Churnkey's are dynamic: the offer presented depends on who is leaving, what they said and what segment they belong to, with pauses and plan switches alongside discounts, and branching logic underneath. Bastle configures an offer per cancellation reason, which handles the common cases well and is meaningfully simpler than what Churnkey does.
The AI surface is also theirs. Churnkey generates flow copy and offers, translates flows automatically, and mines cancellation free-text for patterns. Bastle's cancellation insights weight each reason by the MRR it took with it and trend reasons over time, which is a different and in our view underrated analysis, but it is not free-text mining and it does not write your copy for you.
Churnkey publishes strong headline figures for churn reduction and payment recovery. We are not going to reproduce or dispute them here; they are vendor claims on their own site, evaluate them the way you would evaluate ours.
Where Bastle is a different tool entirely
Churnkey will not tell you your net revenue retention by cohort, your quick ratio, which plan has the worst six-month retention, or how much of last month's MRR decline was contraction rather than churn. It is not trying to. Bastle is a full analytics product: 28 subscription metrics, cohort tables, stackable segmentation, MRR movement decomposition, investor-facing live metric rooms, forecasting in beta, and a REST API with webhooks, a CLI and an MCP server.
The connection between the two matters more than either in isolation. A cancellation reason in Bastle is a customer attribute, so you can filter metrics and cohorts by why people left and see whether the reason that gets mentioned most is the one costing the most money. Usually it is not.
The stacking question
Plenty of teams will end up running an analytics product and a dedicated retention product, and that is a reasonable architecture. If retention is your acute problem and you already have analytics you trust, Churnkey plus what you have is a better answer than replacing everything with Bastle. If you are buying both from scratch, or if your analytics tool is the thing frustrating you, one product that does both — free while in beta, with no add-on stacking — is worth evaluating.
Who wrote this page
Bastle did, and Bastle benefits if you choose Bastle. That is a bias no amount of good intent removes, so the useful thing is to make it checkable rather than to claim it away. Every capability claim above is specific enough to disprove in an afternoon, the case for the other product gets the same room as the case for ours, and anything that works differently rather than not at all is marked partial.
Read this alongside the other vendor's own documentation, not instead of it. If something here is wrong about their product, tell us: corrections are treated as bugs rather than as debate, the page gets fixed and its research date is reset so you can see it was revised. That applies whether the correction makes them look better or us look worse.
